The second meeting of partners in Euro-BioImaging Poland initiative

The meeting was attended by more than 30 representatives of different Polish scientific institutions using and developing biological and medical imaging techniques, as well as representatives of institutions and scientific communities interested in biomedical imaging.

Speakers and other meeting participants represented leading Polish institutions in the field of biomedical imaging, such as the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS, Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS, Mossakowski Medical Research Centre PAS, International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Warsaw University of Technology, Wrocław University of Technology, Jagiellonian University, Medical University of Lublin, Nicolaus Copernicus University, University of Warsaw, University of Wrocław and Medical University of Warsaw.

The meeting was opened by Prof. Adam Szewczyk, the Necki Institute director. Next, Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun delivered the keynote lecture on the development of trends in optical methods of superresolution imaging. Dr. Marcin Szumowski (Nencki Institute), the Euro-BioImaging Poland project manager updated meeting participants on the overall Euro-BioImaging pan-European infrastructure progress, with respect to its financial and operating model as well as the suggested mechanism for selecting referral centres.

In the second part of the meeting, Dr. Ewa Wilczek (Medical University of Warsaw), Dr. Joanna Bierła (Medical University of Warsaw), Prof. Grzegorz Wilczyński (Nencki Institute), Dr. Agnieszka Kois-Ostrowska (University of Wrocław) and Dr. Dariusz Jan Smoliński (Nicolaus Copernicus University), Polish biological imaging specialists, presented the results of their own studies and achievements and discussed future plans developed at their home institutions in the area of biological imaging.

In the third thematic part of the meeting, Prof. Jerzy Walecki (Mossakowski Medical Research Centre PAS) and Dr. Radosław Rola (Medical University of Lublin) specialists in medical imaging presented the already existing Polish MRI-PET facilities and 7T–Centrum EcoTech Complex, a centre of high-field imaging, which is currently under construction.

The meeting ended with discussion of the action plan for the current year.
